Engineering Disciplines & Eligibility Criteria
Engineering Disciplines/Categories:
- Category I: Civil Engineering
- Category II: Mechanical Engineering
- Category III: Electrical Engineering
- Category IV: Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
Educational Qualification:
- Degree in Engineering from a recognized University incorporated by an Act of Central/State Legislature or Institution established by an Act of Parliament.
- Passed Sections A & B of Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India).
- Degree/Diploma in Engineering from a foreign University recognized by the Government.
- Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India)/Associate Membership Examination of the Aeronautical Society of India (subject to cutoff guidelines).
- For IRRS (Group 'A') and INAS (Electronics Engg. Posts): M.Sc. degree or equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics, or Radio Engineering is also acceptable.
- Final year appearing candidates are also eligible to apply provisionally.
Age Limit & Relaxation (as on 01/01/2027):
- Candidate must have attained 21 years and must not have attained 30 years (born between 02/01/1997 and 01/01/2006).
- SC/ST: Upper age relaxation up to 5 years.
- OBC (NCL): Upper age relaxation up to 3 years.
- PwBD Candidates: Upper age relaxation up to 10 years.
- Departmental Candidates: Upper age limit relaxed up to 35 years as per rules.
Selection Process:
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type - 500 Marks)
- Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional Type - 600 Marks)
- Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks)
How to Apply for UPSC ESE 2027
Candidates must submit their applications online through the UPSC official portal (upsconline.nic.in). Hard copies of the application form are not required to be sent to the Commission.
Application Procedure & Important Instructions:
- Register on the Online Application Portal to generate a lifetime Universal Registration Number (URN).
- Fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) and Examination Specific Form.
- Upload captured live photograph and scanned signatures (signed three times vertically on white paper with black ink).
- Ensure valid Photo ID proof details (such as Voter ID, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, or other State/Central Govt Photo ID) are entered.
- Pay the application fee of ₹200/- online using Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI (Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are exempted).
- Submit the form before the closing deadline on 06/10/2026 (06:00 PM).
